Bryan Dorsey

Bryan Dorsey

Iona College swimming & diving head coach Nick Cavataro announced Bryan Dorsey as the new assistant coach of the Maroon & Gold program in September of 2018. Dorsey began his career attending Iona as a student-athlete where he was a part of the program’s lone Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in 1993.

After graduating from Iona in ‘93 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Dorsey spent four years as a high school English teacher. After that short time, he came to the ultimate decision of dedicating himself to coaching swimming full time.

Following that passion, Dorsey became the head coach of the Iona Gael Aquatic Club, the YWCA Middies and the Gatewayves. He also served as the main age group coach with Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics and the Condors Swim Club. Locally in New Rochelle, Dorsey spend four years as a head coach at Iona Prep and five years assisting with the Iona men’s and women’s diving programs.

Along the way, Dorsey has brought countless age group swimmers to USA Swimming Senior Mets, Eastern Zones and Junior Olympic Championships. He also guided senior swimmers to USA Sectional, Junior and Senior National standards and coached several high school and collegiate All-America award recipients.

“I am very pleased to announce the hiring of Bryan Dorsey as an assistant coach. A graduate of Iona with a degree in English, as well as being a four-year member of this program, including being a member of the 1993 MAAC Championship team,” comments Cavataro. “Bryan is a natural educator and coach, who has tremendous knowledge and passion.”
