New Rochelle, NY - Manhattan College served up a 3-0 tally over Iona volleyball this afternoon. The Gaels dropped three straight games 30-27, 30-21, 30-21.
Morgan Young led the team with eight kills, followed by
Sarah Wiener with 7.
Alyssa Morales put up 18 set assists, and
Beth Holly was first with 11 digs.
Iona's best performance came in game one, where they led the Jaspers 14-13 in kills .180-.160 in hitting percentage. Megan Dailey, who was honored before the game for recording her 1,000th career kill last week, knocked blasted three more to score early for the Gaels. The score was even throughout most of the game, both teams matching points. A kill by Jasper Meghan Plunkett and an Iona ball handling error sealed the deal for Manhattan in the first game.
Manhattan opened game two with three unanswered points, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The Gaels were unable to keep up with the Jaspers' strong offense, and would drop their fourth consecutive match.
Iona will try to regain composure later in the week as they face Fairfield at home. The game will be held in the Hynes Athletics Center this Thursday at 7:00 pm.
