Buffalo, NY - The Iona College volleyball team suffered a three-game loss to Canisius on Saturday, falling 21-30, 19-30, and 17-30. The Gaels (3-12, 1-5) have dropped four straight.
The Golden Griffins immediately took control in game one, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. The Gaels stayed close, closing to 10-5 on a Megan Dailey kill, but Canisius maintained a comfortable lead the remainder of the way to take the game.
After an even start to game two, the Griffs ripped off ten straight points to go ahead 15-5. Iona could get no closer than nine as the team fell down two games to none.
Game three saw the Griffs jump out to an early lead once again, going up 10-4. Iona tried to rally, closing to within 11-7, but Canisius once again held off the charge to secure the match victory.
Morgan Young had a team-best seven kills. Alyssa Morales racked up 20 assists, while Shelby Erb led the team with 11 digs.
The Gaels return to action tomorrow at Niagara.
