New Rochelle, NY - After falling behind two games to one, the Iona College volleyball team rallied for a victory against Marist, 30-26, 25-30, 14-30, 30-28, and 16-14. The Gaels improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC.
Iona controlled most of game one, scoring on three consecutive Alyssa Morales serves to go ahead 7-4. Marist came back to take a one-point lead before the Gaels stormed back ahead 20-16. Kendall Paulus and Kristin Allain combined for a block on the final play to secure a 30-26 win.
After leading 23-20 in game two, Iona allowed the Red Foxes to score 10 of the final 12 points, evening the match. Game three was all Marist as the visitors jumped out to a 14-2 lead on their way to the 30-14 win.
Trailing 28-27 in game four, a Megan Dailey kill evened the score, and Allain and Katie Brilla combined for blocks on the final two rallies to even the match at two games apiece.
Tied at 10 in the decisive game, the Gaels turned three Allain serves into points to move ahead 13-10. Marist recovered to even the score at 14, but Paulus and Morgan Young strung together consecutive kills to give the Gaels the match victory.
Beth Holly had a team-high 34 assists, while Shelby Erb led all players with 28 digs.
Dailey led Iona with 19 kills, followed by 15 from Young and 11 from Paulus.
The Gaels travel to Central Connecticut State on Sep. 27 for a 7:00 pm match.
