New Rochelle, NY - The Iona College volleyball team won a convincing three game match in non-conference play against Quinnipiac for its third consecutive win. With the victory, the Gaels have improved their record to 9-12 overall.
The Maroon & Gold hit .444 in game one, never trailing in the round after pulling out to a 10-3 lead. The squad worked quickly through the first game, powering their way to a 30-13 win. Game two was a bit tougher as the Bobcats took a 7-6 lead on a service ace by Janelle Walz. Back-to-back kills by Katie Brilla and Alyssa Morales moved the Gaels back out in front, and from there they ran away to a 30-23 second round win. Game three was more reflective of the opener, with Iona steadily increasing its lead with each serve. The Gaels closed out the match with a 30-17 final score in the third game.
Sarah Wiener was Iona's most dangerous attacker, leading the team with 14 kills. Kristin Allain recorded three service aces, followed by Morales with two. Allison Nieters had one ace to go along with her 27 digs on the night.
Iona returns to its conference schedule with a short trip to Manhattan on Oct. 13. The first serve is set for 2:00 pm.
