New Rochelle, NY - Led by Kelly Oliver, the Fairfield Stags shut out the Iona College volleyball team in three games at the Hynes Athletics Center. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 9-6 in conference matches, while the Stags improve to 14-1.
Games one and two started out close, with both games being tied six times in the early portion. In the first game, a Kendall Paulus kill stopped an 8-0 Fairfield run which put the visitors ahead 16-8. The Stags steadily increased their lead, winning the first game 30-18. The squad went on a similar dash in game two, scoring seven straight points for an 18-10 lead. Kristin Allain brought the side out for Iona with a kill, but the Gaels could not manage to hold off the bounding Stags. Fairfield won the second game 30-21, and went on to take the match with a 30-22 win in game three.
Allain brought in a double-double on the night, posting ten kills and ten digs. Sarah Wiener joined her in double digits with 11 kills. Libero Allison Nieters had 26 digs, Alyssa Morales amassed 31 assists.
The Maroon & Gold will head to Rider next for a 2:00 pm match on Nov. 4.
