Poughkeepsie, NY - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team came off its season opening victory over Sacred Heart to face the defending MAAC Champions Marist Tuesday night. The Gaels (1-1, 0-1 MAAC) took four events but couldn't catch up to the Red Foxes (2-2, 2-1 MAAC) who took a 136-90 win.
Senior Kerby Lewis was a double winner for the Gaels as she took the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. Lewis finished the 100 freestyle at 55.06, nearly a second and half quicker than second (56.64). She touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:31.43 ahead of teammate and classmate Amanda McCarthy (2:35.91).
The Maroon & Gold had the top three finishers in the 500 freestyle as freshman Christine Larkin paced the Gaels at 5:19.23. Sophomore Megan McNeely touched at 5:29.25 and senior Lauren Finnegan touched at 5:45.00. Iona also had a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Sophomore Megan McNeely, and freshmen Christine Williams, Brittany Freeman and Samantha Cody (3:55.51) beat out sophomore Cassie Nassivera, junior Dana Patterson, and seniors Kristin Heller and Lauren Finnegan (4:08.10).
The Gaels are back in pool as they join the men in welcoming Canisius to the Hynes Athletic Center pool on Saturday, December 1 at 10 am.
