Fairfield, CT - The Iona College volleyball team was defeated by Siena, 3-1, in the semifinal round of the 2007 MAAC Volleyball Championships. With the win, Siena advanced to face Fairfield in the championship match.
The Saints were strong from the start, cruising to 30-18 and 30-15 wins in games one and two. Iona responded in game three, posting a .412 hitting percentage in the round. The Gaels worked their way up to a 19-14 lead but Siena scored the next five points to even the score at 19-all. A kill by Kristin Allain broke the run and sparked four straight scores for the Maroon & Gold as Iona took a 23-19 edge. The squad maintained control throughout the rest of the stanza to win game three, 30-26.
The decisive fourth game was competitive, and Iona held a 19-18 advantage before Siena rallied to score 12 of the final 16 points to claim the match.
Allain and Kendall Paulus each had double-doubles in the contest, Allain with 19 kills and 12 digs and Paulus with 15 kills and 17 digs. Allison Nieters rounded up 19 digs while Alyssa Morales had 41 assists.
