West Point, NY- The Iona College volleyball team dropped its second contest to start the season in a 3-0 (27-30, 23-30, 14-30) defeat at Army this morning. The Gaels were led by sophomore Sarah Wiener's six kills in the loss.

The Gaels (0-2) started off strong in game one, taking an early 10-5 by taking advantage of some early Army (2-0) miscues. The Black Knights rallied to cut the score to within a point at 13-12. After an Iona timeout, the Gaels went on a 6-3 run to take a four point lead. Iona never relinquished the lead until late in the frame. Trailing 27-25, the Black Knights netted five straight points to earn the game one win.

Unfortunately for the visitors game two mirrored the performance of its predecessor. After trailing 6-2, Iona held leads of 13-9 and 20-16 before the final lead change of the game came with the score knotted at 22. Army netted nine of the game's final 10 points for a 30-23 win.

The Black Knights cruised in game three after scoring eight of the game's first nine points.

Wiener's six kills were supported by five a piece from rookie Colleen Genett and junior Kendall Paulus. Junior setter Alyssa Morales had 16 assists and rookie libero Allison Nieters recorded 14 digs in the loss.

Army had four players with double-digit kill totals led by Rachael Breinling's 12.

The Gaels return to action at the Hynes Center on Wednesday evening when they take on local rival Fordham at 7:00 p.m.
