Jersey City, NJ - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team needed to rebound
coming off a tough loss at Seton Hall. The Gaels didn't leave the
state of New Jersey as they took on MAAC rival St. Peter's. The Maroon
& Gold controlled the meet and won every event bringing home a
129-52 victory.
"Our women were very solid today, we won every event
easily," said head coach Nick Cavataro. Senior Kerby Lewis was a double winner in the 200-IM (2:13.44) and the 100-Free (55.06). Freshman Christine Williams had a "lifetime best performance" said Cavataro as she took the her first collegiate win in the
1650-free with a time of 19:12.78, an event that saw Iona take the top four spots. Freshman Maggie Wood also had a lifetime best performance as she touched the wall first in the 200-Back with a time
of 2:12.42. She helped lead the 400-Relay to a victory along with
classmates Sarah Walker and Sam Cody and Lewis. Walker pick up a big win in the 200-Breast finishing in 2:34.28.
The Gaels don't return to the pool until February 2 when they have a dual meet against Loyola (MD) and Fairfield in Baltimore. "We know have a solid stretch of 7 practices days
before we race again and before we enter our taper phase heading into the MAAC Championship," commented Cavataro.
