New Rochelle, NY- The Iona College Men's Water Polo team took its first game of a four
game homestand with a dominant 20-8 win over Conn College on Friday
night. The Gaels (9-13) jumped out to 4-0 lead on the way to a 7-1
first quarter and never trailed. Five players netted two goals with
Joe Przekota scoring three.
Iona outscored the Camels (0-3) just five to three in the second half to take a 12-4 lead into halftime. After the half, Conn College score a pair in the third, but the Gaels put up three and put the game out of reach with a 5-2 fourth quarter and took the victory.
The Maroon & Gold saw three goaltenders all put up great performances. Eric Konzem had four saves and allowed just one goal. Mark DiCola stopped ten shots and Eric Lilly had four saves.
DiCola added two goals on just two shots. Andrew Velasquez had two goals, a steal and a kickout drawn. Seth Tasman netted a pair of goals with two assists and two steals. Max Kryminski had a pair of goals and an assist, and Joe Przekota had a hat trick, two steals and four kickouts drawn. Rookie Carlos Cannon added two goals with captain Patrick St. Cin netting a goal with an assist, a steal and a field block. Ed Gronkowski had a goal, a steal and a kickout drawn with Adam Neid adding a goal. Nick Velasquez had a goal and two steals with Ryan Scott, Cameron Hudson and Matt Kolb adding the final tallies.
Entering the game, Przekota ranked third in the country with 46 goals and Konzem ranked third in saves with 160. As a team, Iona ranked second in goals per game with 10.05.
Iona continues the homestand on Saturday, October 11 with two games. The Gaels open up against No. 19 Brown at 12:00 pm followed by a game with MIT at 7:00 pm. Both games will be played at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool.
