New Rochelle, NY - The Iona College Men's Water Polo team entered the second quarter on
Sunday against Harvard trailing for the first all weekend. The Gaels
(11-14, 3-1 CWPA) went on to outscore the Crimson (2-9, 1-3 CWPA) 10-7
over the next three quarters and took a 12-10 win.
Harvard took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but back to back goals by Joe Przekota and Ed Gronkowski put Iona on top. Przekota added another goal in the quarter to push the Gaels to a 5-4 lead at halftime. The Crimson came back in the third quarter to take a goal advantage, but a 5-2 fourth quarter propelled the Gaels to the win.
Przekota finished four kickouts drawn in addition his five goals. Gronkowski added an assist, a steal and field block to his hat trick. Senior Captain Patrick St. Cin had a pair of goals with senior Nick Velasquez and rookie Trevor Creighton adding the final tallies. Creighton also had two steals and a kickout drawn. Emre Erdogan had a steal, Matt Joslyn had a field block and Seth Tasman handed out two assists. Eric Lilly stopped five shots and Mark DiCola stopped seven shots as the two split time in net.
Prior to the game, Head Coach Brian Kelly recognized his program's six seniors: St. Cin, Gronkowski, Velasquez, John Kryminiski, Adam Neid and DiCola. Iona heads back on out the road to Colorado for three games this weekend. The Gaels will face Colorado in an exhibition on Friday, October 17 followed by two games against No. 17 Air Force on Satuday and Sunday.
