POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team snapped a two-game skid with a four-set victory over Marist at the McCann Center in MAAC action on Sunday. The Gaels (16-10, 8-6 MAAC) used a solid overall effort to move in to a fourth place tie with the Red Foxes (13-14, 8-6 MAAC) in the 30-28, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21 victory.
Junior Sarah Wiener posted 15 kills and three blocks while hitting .371 from the outside and sophomore Colleen Genett had 14 kills, hit .522 and had four blocks from the middle to lead the Gaels offensively. Sophomore Rachel Whitten and senior Kendall Paulus posted nine kills a piece.
Defensively, sophomore libero Allison Nieters had 22 digs while Whitten and sophomore setter Alyssa Erickson had 11 a piece. Erickson completed her team leading 11th double-double of the season with 48 assists, her third-highest single-match total of the season.
The Gaels return home for the final four matches of the regular season in their quest to earn a spot in the 2008 MAAC Championship in three weeks. Iona takes on Niagara and Canisius at home next Saturday and Sunday.
