New Rochelle, NY - The Iona College Women's Swim Team returned to the pool and MAAC Conference competition with a home meet against Saint Peter's on Wednesday night.  From the first event, the Gaels never looked back taking the top spot in nearly every event on their way to 150-71 win.

In the 200-Free relay, the Gaels finished 1-2 with the first team touching the wall at 1:55.48 followed by the second team at 1:59.04.  Chrstine Larkin swam a strong 1650 coming in at 18:28.35.  In the 200-Free, the Maroon & Gold took a 1-2-3 finish headed up by Mackenzie Mone with a time of 1:57.95 and the Gaels claimed another 1-2-3 finish in the  50-Free with Dana Patterson (26.24) just edging out her teammate Kathleen Link (26.38).

Sam Cody continued her strong season with a 4:52.81 and a first place finish in the 400 IM.  She also grabbed the wall first in the 200-Fly in a time of 2:14.36.  Amanda Cody completed a 1-2-3 for Iona in the 100-Free (53.81) followed by teammates Mone (55.72) and Amanda Anastasio (58.89).  "[Cody] swam lifetime bests in 100-free and 50-free," said Head Coach Nick Cavataro.  "Just an awesome swim for her."   

Maggie Wood (200 Back -2:15.01) and Caitlin McGregor (500 Free-5:22.65) gave the Gaels two more individual wins as the Gaels took the the final event, the 200 Free relay in a time of 1:52.80 to seal the meet.  Another strong performance came from Brittany Freeman in the 200 Back finishing just off Wood at 2:17.48.  "Some of our middle scorers from MAACs last year put up some great performances tonigh," said Cavataro.

The Gaels return to the pool on Tuesday, January 27 to take on non-confernce Seton Hall before welcoming Fairfield and Loyola (MD) for a dual MAAC meet on Saturday at 10 am to close out the season.  "It feels like you're going the speed limit and then you push it into overdrive," commented Cavataro about the season schedule leading up to the MAAC Championships.  "The kids and coaches are starting to see the finish line and we really like swimming at the Hynes Pool."
