Sarah Wiener who combined for 27 of the squad's 54 kills in the match.
After taking the first set 25-21, the Maroon & Gold surrendered the second set's final two points in a 25-23 loss. Iona came back after the break with two straight set wins (25-17 and 25-21).
Whitten posted her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs. She added four blocks for a team-high 18.0 points. Wiener hit .333 with 13 kills and four errors on 27 attempts. Her two aces put her point total at 15.0. Sophomore MB
Molly O'Shea had eight kills and was one block shy of a school record with a career-best 12 in the win. She hit .318 to go along with her 16.0 points. Rookie RS
Theresa Harvey posted six kills on seven attempts, hitting a career-best .857. Setters
Alyssa Erickson and
Nicole Tamburri combined for 45 assists in the four sets. Erickson also recorded eight blocks, three kills and an ace for a season-high 9.0 points.
Iona had 16.0 blocks in the match, a season-best, and the highest since a 17.5 block output vs. the Red Foxes at home last Nov. 16. Junior libero
Allison Nieters had a team-best 14 digs while junior DS
Laura Fojanesi posted nine. Nieters stands six digs shy of reaching 2,000 for her career and becoming the second player in MAAC history to accomplish the feat. She already holds Iona's career, single-season and single match records.
The Gaels complete their three-match road trip next Saturday (Nov. 7) at Manhattan for an 11:00 am first serve. The team then returns home on Sunday (Nov. 8) for a tilt with Rider.
