RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team defeated Manhattan by the score of 112-80 at Manhattan on Friday evening.
In the opening event, the Gaels took first and third in the 400 yd medley relay. The Iona squad of Brittany Freeman, Sarah Walker, Sam Cody and Victoria Ponzo clocked in at 4:16.02. The team of Christine Williams, Kara Nowakowski, Theresa Harvey and Catie McGregor finished with a time of 4:28.27.
In the 1000 yard freestyle, Megan McNeely (11:32.02), Williams (11:48.27) and Kellie Mark (12:00.65) secured a 1-2-3 finish for the Gaels.
Harvey (1:58.76) led another top three sweep for the Gaels in the 200 yd freestyle as Christine Larkin (2:03.54) and Cody (2:04.52) took second and third, respectively.
Mackenzie Mone picked up another win for the Gaels as she took first int eh 50 yd freestyle with a time of 26.24. Walker (27.75) and McGregor (27.78) took fourth and fifth for Iona.
Freeman (2:20.95), Ponzo (2:22.09) and Kelsie Johnson took 1-2-3 in the 200 yd IM for the Gaels.
Cody picked up a win for the Gaels in the 100 yd butterfly with a time of 1:01.19. Nowakowski was third, finishing in 1:04.57.
Harvey (54:60) picked up another Iona victory in the 100 yard freestyle.
Johnson won her first collegiate event in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.72.
Mark took first in the 500 yd freestyle with a time of 5:50.96.
The Gaels take to the water again Saturday morning when they host Canisius at 10:00 am.
