NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team continued its hot streak with a three-set win over Rider in MAAC action. Senior Sarah Wiener and juniors Colleen Genett and Rachel Whitten combined for 31 kills and a .500 hitting percentage as the Gaels hit a season-best .383 in the 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 victory over the Broncs.
Wiener continued a strong weekend with 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Whitten chipped in 11 kils, two aces and four digs while hitting .500. Genett had seven kills on nine attempts (.778 percentage). Sophomore MB Molly O'Shea had six kills and three blocks in the victory.
Junior libero Allison Nieters recorded 15 digs. Sophomore S Nicole Tamburri and rookie RS Theresa Harvey added six a piece. Tamburri posted 32 assists for the Gaels.
The Gaels enter the final weekend of the regular season with an 8-8 MAAC record after its five straight wins.. With two wins, the Gaels will need the assistance of one Loyola loss and two Marist defeats in order to clinch a berth in the 2009 MAAC Championship in two weeks.
