BRONX, NY - The Iona College men's water polo team was able to rebound from two losses on Saturday with a pair of victories in contests held at Fordham University. In game one, the Gaels defeated Gannon 12-11 before defeating Mercyhurst 13-12 in the last contest of the day.
In game one of the day, the Gaels came from behind against the Knights. A slow start by Iona allowed Gannon to take leads of 6-1 after the first quarter and 8-2 midway through the second quarter. The Gaels then took control of the contest as the Gaels outscored Gannon 10-3 the rest of the way.
Against Mercyhurst, the Gaels had to play checkup as they had to rally late to pick up the win and avenge an earlier season loss to the Lakers at the ECAC Championship. Tasman had a monster game, scoring seven goals while drawing two kickouts. Sophomore
Kristian Bocage had three assists, drew two kickouts and had two field blocks, including a crucial one on a man-down situation with less than a minute left. Joslyn had a goal and two assists. Stelnicki had a goal and drew a kickout. Hudson had a goal and drew three kickouts. Bracken had a goal as did sophomore
Cody Siemeck. Hill made 12 saves.
The Gaels return to conference action Wednesday when they return to Fordham University to take on the Rams at 7:30 pm.
