CLAREMONT, CA - The Iona College men's water polo team played its first two games of the 2010 Convergence Tournament Friday. In the first game, the Gaels were turned away by NAIA opponent Concordia by a score of 16-11. In game two, the University of Redlands used a three goal fourth quarter to hand the Gaels their fourth one goal loss, falling 10-9.
Against Concordia, the Gaels were unable to stop the Eagles early and could not come back from the three goal deficit they faced after one. Offensively, senior
Seth Tasman led the Gaels with six points on three goals and three assists. Junior
Matt Joslyn had two goals. Freshman
Sean Davis had two assists and freshman
Bryan Driscoll had two points on a goal and an assist. Juniors
Hunter Carrier and
Cameron Hudson had a goal apiece as did sophomore Kristian Bocage and freshmen
Lee Stiles and
Matthew Stelnicki.

Stefen Hill had two saves before classmate
Tom Gaughan came in and made four saves in relief.
In game two, the Gaels led throughout most of the contest before Redlands tied the contest at seven going into the final frame. Tasman was once again the top Gael, scoring three times and dishing out an assist. Hudson had two goals and an assist. Hudson also went four for four in swimoffs to be a perfect eight for eight on the day. Stiles and Joslyn both had a goal and an assist. Freshman
Sean Davis and Stelnicki had the other Iona goals.
Hill made eight saves in net. The Gaels complete the Convergence with two games tomorrow, beginning with a matchup with Cal Lutheran at 10:20 PST. Game two is against Chapman at 3:40 PST.
