PRINCETON, NJ - The Iona College men's water polo began the 2010 season with a matchup with No. 14 Cal Baptist in the squad's initial game at the Princeton Invite. Iona was unable to come back from a strong first half by Cal Baptist by the a score of 20-5.
The Gaels were put in an early hole as the Lancers scored seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. Junior
Hunter Carrier's goal in the second opened the Iona scoring as the Gaels put three goals up in the frame but trailed 11-3 at half. The Gaels were outscored 9-2 in the second half en route to the 20-5 defeat.
Senior
Seth Tasman led Iona with two goals, while junior
Trevor Creighton, sophomore
Kristian Bocage and Carrier added the other Iona tallies. Freshman
Stefen Hill made the start in net for Iona and made six saves. Classmates
Tom Gaughan and
Ian Redding played a quarter each in the second half with Gaughan registering one save and Redding stopping two shots.
The Gaels return to the waters for two contests at Princeton, beginning with a 1:30 pm matchup with Johns Hopkins before ending the day with a 7:30 pm tilt with George Washington.
