LA VERNE, CA - The Iona College men's water polo team wrapped up a successful trip to the west coast Sunday afternoon with two wins in contests hosted by the University of La Verne. In game one, the Gaels came used a four goal first quarter to push themselves to an 11-9 victory over the host Leopards. In the finale of the day, the Gaels' defense stopped a strong Whittier offense to pull out a 9-6 victory.
Against the Poets, the Gaels' top scorer was Lloyd, who had four goals including one on a five meter penalty shot. Freshman, and California native,
Kyle Elmore had two goals and one assist in the game. Stiles continued his strong day with one goal and three assists as well as two kickouts drawn. Joslyn and Mancuso each scored once while Stelnicki had one assist. Hill made six saves in net.
The Gaels return to conference play Wednesday when they take on Brown in New London, CT at 6:00 pm.
