NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team fell to Fairfield in three sets in their 2011 regular season finale at the Hynes Center. Prior to the match the Gaels honored seniors Molly O'Shea and Nicole Tamburri in a senior night presentation.

Rookie Catrina Warren led Iona with seven kills in the loss. She hit .412 with no errors on 17 attempts and recorded five digs and two blocks. Sophomore Madisyn Spence posted five kills while her classmate, Alicja Pawelec, and rookie Taylor Cembalisty chipped in four kills apiece.

Junior libero Theresa Harvey posted a team high 13 digs. Sophomore Ellen Carberry had nine and freshman Katie Marabella had eight in the back row for the Gaels.

Tamburri posted 24 assists and five digs while O'Shea had two kills and a team-best three blocks.

Fairfield's Haililani Pokipala and Rachel Romanski posted double doubles. Pokipala had 12 kills and 11 digs while Romanski had 44 assists and 11 digs. Libero Kara Reis posted 26 digs in the win.

The Stags finished the regular season as the No. 2 seed for next weekend's MAAC Championship. Iona's chances at a postseason bid look grim heading into the final day of play on Sunday. The Gaels need losses from Manhattan (at Siena), Marist (at Saint Peter's) and Canisius (at Rider) tomorrow in order secure the No. 4 seed.
