Water Polo Stopped By Johns Hopkins, 13-7

Johns Hopkins University topped the Iona College men's water polo team 13-7 to reach the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship fifth place game at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.

The Blue Jays will face Bucknell University at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, while the Gaels (14-15) will meet Harvard in the seventh place game.

For Hopkins, the difference was man-up goals as the Blue Jays converted on six-of-13 opportunities, while holding the Gaels to a two-for-seven performance.

Trailing 1-0 following a man-up goal by freshman Jake Lloyd thirty seconds into the game, JHU rattled off three markers in a row to make it 3-1 in facor of the Blue Jays.

Iona cut the deficit to one with a tally by freshman Ian Thompson at 3:17, but Hopkins closed the opening period with two man-up goals, to pull out in front 5-2.

The Gaels started the second period with a tally by sophomore Bryan Driscoll at 6:36 to slice the lead to two, but Hopkins pushed across another Blue Jays' man-up goal at 4:42 to return the spread to three at 6-3.

On the heels of another Hopkins man-up goal, Iona responded with a strike from the hand of Cameron Hudson to keep the Gaels within three at 7-4.  However, JHU closed the first half with a tally at 1:32 to carry an 8-4 lead into intermission.

Hopkins blew the game open in the third period outscoring Iona 4-0, while the Gaels closed the game with natural goals from senior Matt Joslyn and freshman Tyler Mancuso before Hudson lobbed in the final tally on a man-up chance at 2:01 for the 13-7 final score.
