CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Iona College men's water polo team secured third place at the 2011 CWPA Northern Championship with a 13-11 victory over No. 6 seed Harvard. Freshman
Kyle Elmore had four goals to go along with one assist while senior
Cameron Hudson had four goals, two steals and one ejection drawn.
Sophomore
Bryan Driscoll was the team's top set up man, picking up five assists while also drawing one ejection. Freshman
Jake Lloyd had three goals, one assist, one steal and two field blocks while classmate
Tyler Mancuso had two goals, two steals and two ejections drawn. Senior
Matt Joslyn had one assist and drew two ejections in the win. Sophomore
Stefen Hill had 12 saves.
""It was a great team effort," commented head coach
Brian Kelly. "We went down two in the fourth and our bench really gave us a big boost. Driscoll,
Ryan Scott, and
Jonathan Hernould made some big plays to help us in a 5-1 fourth quarter that sealed the victory."
"We are really becoming a very deep team with a lot of weapons," continued Kelly. "It's exciting getting back to Eastern Championships. We now have a chance to play for NCAA Championships. Anything can happen and we feel that if we bring our top game, that we can compete with anybody in the tournament."
The Gaels return to the water in two weeks for the Eastern Championships, once again held in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
