ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Iona College men's water polo team split a pair of close contests Sunday on the second day of the CWPA North-South Crossover, hosted by the Naval Academy. In the day's opener, the Gaels played 16th ranked Bucknell close before the Bison pulled away in the fourth for a 16-11 victory. In game two, the Gaels outscored Mercyhurst 1-0 in the extra session to escape with an 11-10 overtime victory.
In the finale against Mercyhurst, the Lakers scored with two seconds left in regulation to tie the contest at 10. However, the Gaels went on to score the game winner with 10 seconds remaining in overtime on a goal by Mancuso.
Freshman
Jake Lloyd led the Gaels with four points overall with a three goal, one assist effort. He also added a field block on defense. Hudson had three goals, two kickouts drawn and one steal for the Maroon & Gold. Bocage had a goal and two assists to conclude his strong day. Mancuso found the net and drew two kickouts while classmate
Ian Thompson had two goals. Joslyn had one assist to go along with two ejections drawn.
The Gaels return to the water Saturday when they host a pair of contests at the Hynes Center, beginning with a matchup against Harvard at 10:00 am.
