POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team closed out its weekend itinerary Sunday afternoon with a loss to MAAC rival Marist. The Gaels dropped the match with set scores of 20-25, 19-25, and 19-25.
The Red Foxes never trailed in the first set. After a service error allowed the Gaels to cut the lead to one at 6-5, Marist picked up the next four points in a row to take a five point lead. The Red Foxes would go on to lead by as much as eight before winning the set.
The Gaels jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second set before Marist picked up nine of the next 13 points to tie the game at nine. Marist would then score eight of the next nine points to take a seven point lead. An attack error got the Gaels to within four before Marist would close out the set on a 7-5 run.

Alicja Pawelec, Marist outscored Iona 8-1 to take a three point lead they would not relinquish.
The Gaels continue MAAC action at home next weekend when they take on Rider Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Hynes Center.
