GREENWICH, CT - The Iona College men's water polo team fell to Mercyhurst Sunday morning 16-13 in a contest held at the Greenwich YMCA.
The Gaels got out to an early 3-2 lead after the first quarter. The Lakers would respond in the second quarter, outscoring Iona 4-1 over the eight minutes to take a 6-4 lead into the half.
In the second half, the two teams combined for 19 goals, with Mercyhurst outscoring the Gaels 10-9 to take the three goal win.
A quartet of sophomores each had two goals for the Gaels, as Jake Lloyd, Kyle Elmore, James Ramaley and Ian Thompson each had multi-goal efforts.
Senior Kristian Bocage, juniors Lee Stiles, Sean Davis and Matthew Stelnicki, and freshman Zach Presto each had one goal each in the loss. In goal, junior Stefen Hill had five saves.
Iona wraps up the regular season Wednesday, when they take on Fordham on the road at 7:30 pm.
