NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's swimming and diving team completed the Iona Invitation with victories over St. Francis 203-33 and Sacred Heart 180-56 on Saturday at the Hynes Athletic Center.
The Gaels dropped the dual to Wagner 143-97.
The diving portion began the meet with senior
Briana Gongloff winning the 1-meter completion with a 191.15. In the 3-meter event, Iona placed second (Gongloff), third (junior
Melanie Dilascio) and fourth (freshman
Alicia Raffle).
The Gaels took second in the 400-Medley at 4:07.16 and won their first individual race in the 50-Free as freshman
Melissa Dorsch finished in 25.32. Classmate
Mary Ellen Mangione placed second in the 200-IM with
Cassidy O'Connell and
Leigh Musselman finishing third and fourth. Mangione took second in the 200-Breast in 2:31.10.
Seniors
Victoria Ponzo and
Kara Nowakowski took fourth in fifth in the 200-Fly with Nowakowski taking fourth in the 1000-Free. Ponzo also finished fifth in the 500-Free.
The Gales as a relay squad took first and second in the 400-Free in times of 3:49.83 and 3:57.19.
The Gaels will host Seton Hall on Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
