LOS ANGELES, CA - The Iona College volleyball team salvaged a split this afternoon in action at the DoubleTree Los Angeles Westside Invitational. The Gaels dropped a three set decision to host Loyola Marymount before defeating the Big East's UConn in the nightcap. The win over the Huskies is believed to be the first win over a team from the Super 6 Conference in program history.
In Iona's final match in Los Angeles, the Gaels dispatched UConn 26-24, 28-26, 15-25, and 25-9. Pawelec exploded for 17 kills while recording five digs. Warren had 10 kills, six digs and three blocks. Junior
Madisyn Spence had eight kills and 13 digs while Humann and sophomore
Taylor Cembalisty each had seven kills in the win. Cembalisty added a career-high 10 digs.
Harvey posted 31 digs, her second highest single-match total and third 30+ dig effort of her career. Myles posted 40 assists and a career-best 14 digs in her second career double-double.
The Gaels return to New York for their home opener on Wednesday vs. N.J.I.T.
