CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Iona College men's water polo team split a pair of CWPA North contests Saturday at Blodgett Pool. Iona opened the day with a 13-10 win over MIT before falling to Harvard 11-3 in the nightcap.
The Gaels led from start to finish in the contest, holding a 7-2 lead at halftime en route to their first conference victory of the season. Junior
Lee Stiles led the Gaels with four goals, one assist and two field blocks. Sophomore
Jake Lloyd had three goals and one steal. Senior
Kristian Bocage had two goals while sophomores
Ian Thompson and
Kyle Elmore each scored once. Junior
Stefen Hill had seven saves and two steals.
The Gaels were unable to get the offense going against the Crimson, scoring just one goal in each of three quarters. Elmore, sophomore
Nicholas Joslyn and junior
Jonathan Hernould each scored goals for Iona. Hill made nine saves in net.
We started the day with a big win over MIT, but against Harvard, we had our most disappointing game of the season, said head coach
Brian Kelly. "They worked harder, played more physical and wanted it more than us in every facet of the game."
Iona resumes play Saturday, when they host two CWPA North contests at the Hynes Center. At 2:00 pm, the Gaels host Brown before ending the day with a 7:00 pm matchup vs. Connecticut College.
