NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team picked up an impressive 131-112 victory over Fairfield on Senior Day at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Gaels won seven of the thirteen events along with both team relays. Iona's first relay win of the event came in the 400-medley as the foursome of senior
Theresa Harvey, juniors Maria Skeiyvs and
Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff and freshman
Melissa Dorsch finished in 4:07.31.
“This was a big win for the ladies today on senior day,” said head coach
Nick Cavataro. “We got big points today from all our competitors and it showed in the outcome.”
Senior
Kara Nowakowski finished in second place in the 1,000-free in 11:09.76. Nowakowski also finished in third place in the 200-fly with freshman
Daniela Beasley finishing just ahead of her in second.
Harvey won the 200-free in 1:57.63 and junior
Brigitte Doughty came in second three seconds behind. Senior
Victoria Ponzo finished fourth. Harvey added to her win list on the day, scoring a big first place finish in the 100-free at 54.31. Dodenhoff finished in second behind her.
Doughty gave Iona first place points, winning the 500-free in 5:21.04.
Dodenhoff and Dorsch finished first and second, respectively in the 50-free with Dodenhoff finishing at 25.47 and Dorsch at 26.05.
In the 200-IM, freshman
Mary Ellen Mangione and classmate
Leigh Musselman finished first and second, respectively, as Mangione hit the pad at 2:13.87. Musselman finished in second in the 200-backstroke at 2:17.47.
The final team relay win came in the 400-free with Doughy, Musselman, sophomore
Olivia Kroll and Mangione anchoring the victory in 3:45.03.
The Gaels will return to the Hynes Athletics Center on Monday for a meet with Manhattan at 6 p.m.
