NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's swimming and diving team completed their final home meet with a win over MAAC local rival Manhattan 169-104 on Monday evening at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool.
The 16-event formation aided the Gaels, as the team won 12 races along with 10 second place finishes.
Senior
Kara Nowakowski and freshman
Emma Martinus finished in the top-two spots in the 1,000-free, with Nowakowski finishing in 11:06.71 and Martinus at 11:35.18.
Senior
Kelsie Johnson won the 100-backstroke finishing just above a minute, 1:00.51 and sophomore
Olivia Kroll in second place in 1:03.46.
Iona added another top-two finish as Dodenhoff won the 100-breastroke in 1:07.93 and freshman
Mary Ellen Mangione placed second in 1:10.22.
In the 200-fly, senior
Victoria Ponzo won in 2:10.64 and freshman
Daniela Beasley came in second at 2:23.70. Ponzo also won the 100-fly in 1:00.81.
Harvey added to her career wins in the 50-free hitting the touchpad in 25.36 with freshman
Melissa Dorsch finishing at 25.92. Harvey won the next race, the 100-free in 54.92. Dodenhoff and Dorsch finished in the next two spots.
Musselman, Kroll and Martinus swept the 200-backstroke with Musselman winning in 2:16.53. In the 200-breastroke, Mangione won and classmate
Cassidy O'Connell finished second.
Doughty and Nowakowski also added points for Iona in their second long-distance event, winning the 500-free. Doughty's time was 5:22.27 and Nowakowski placed in second at 5:31.74.
The Gaels will now rest and prepare for the MAAC Championships in Buffalo, NY from Feb.14 until Feb. 16.
