Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team picked up a four-set win over Rider in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The Gaels (7-12, 5-4 MAAC) remained unbeaten at home and have won seven straight at the Hynes Center dating back to last season.
Junior OH Catrina Warren led the Gaels with 20 kills and 17 digs, her 10th double-double of the season and seventh in the last eight matches. Warren hit .304 and posted seven kills and seven digs in the final set to help the Maroon & Gold to the 25-23 win.
Junior RS Taylor Cembalisty recorded her fourth straight double-double and sixth of the season with 12 kills and 14 digs. Senior OH Alicja Pawelec had 10 kills for her seventh straight match in double figures.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin had 47 assists and seven digs. Sophomore DS Katy Crouse added 11 digs in the win.
Rider was led by 13 kills from freshman MB Kaitlyn Griffin and 12 by rookie OH Ryan Ackerman posted 12 kills in the loss. Setters Ashlee Amatulli and Brandie Hill combined for 44 assists while libero Alaina Piszczek had 17 digs in the win.
The Gaels took the match with set scores 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23. In the third set, Iona came within one point of erasing nine-point, 20-11 deficit that would have put them in a position to close out the match in three.
The Maroon & Gold continues its four-match home stand tomorrow at 1:00 pm when they host Saint Peter's.
