Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team improved to 6-0 at the Hynes Center as they battled to a four-set win over Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Gaels (9-12, 7-4 MAAC) moved into a three-way tie for third place in the standings with the 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 win.
Senior OH Alicja Pawelec had 16 kills and juniors OH Catrina Warren and RS Taylor Cembalisty had double-doubles to lead the Maroon & Gold. Warren filled the stat sheet with 15 kills, 20 digs, five blocks and two aces. It was her fourth straight double-double, ninth in the last 10 matches and team-leading 12th of the season. Cembalisty had 12 kills and 12 digs in her seventh double-double of the season to go along with three blocks.
Up the middle, junior Shannon Ward and sophomore McKenzie Humann combined for 17 kills and 10 blocks. Ward had 10 kills and three blocks while hitting .500 for the match. Humann posted seven kills and seven blocks.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin had a career-best 54 assists to go along with seven digs. In the back row, senior libero Madisyn Spence had a match-high 23 digs while sophomore DS Katy Crouse had 11 in the win.
Marist was led by 11 kills from Courtney Shaw and 10 from Kelsey Lahey. Becca Jones had eight kills and 19 digs and libero Brooke Zywick had 15 digs. Setter Audra Brady had 37 assists with nine digs, four kills and three blocks.
The Gaels continue their pivotal weekend vs. Siena Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Hynes Center.
