Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team earned a three-set win over Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Gaels (10-12, 8-4 MAAC) won their fourth straight match and remained unbeaten at home in 2013 in their 10th straight win at the Hynes center.
Iona opened up an 8-0 advantage and never trailed in a first set 25-15 win. Siena led set two 18-11 before a 15-6 run by the Gaels resulted in a Maroon & Gold 26-24 win. After the Saints got within one point at 14-13, the Iona pulled away in a 25-19 set win.
Junior OH Catrina Warren posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs along with four blocks in the win. Senior OH Alicja Pawelec hit .333 with nine kills on 27 attempts with no errors. Junior RS Taylor Cembalisty added seven kills and 10 digs. In the middle, junior Shannon Ward and sophomore McKenzie Humann combined for 10 kills and seven blocks.
Sophomore Setter Natalie Ziskin also had a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs. Senior libero Madisyn Spence had 11 digs while sophomore DS Katie Crouse added seven digs.
Siena was led by senior Taylor Akana's 14 kills and 17 digs. Senior Jacqueline Skeen had 10 kills while setter Haley Howell had 35 assists and libero Bobbi Lin Kalama had 19 digs in the loss.
The Gaels hit the road for a mid-week tilt at Rider on Wednesday.
