NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team opened up its home 2013 campaign with a quad meet Saturday afternoon at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool. The Gaels defeated Sacred Heart (175-49) and St. Francis BRooklyn (170-57), but were outscored by 145-85.
Prior to the contest, head coach Nick Cavataro honored seniors Melanie Dilascio, Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff, Brigitte Doughty, Sophia Hyokyvaara and Maria Skeivys in one of their final home meets with the Gaels.
Sophomore Alica Raffle picked up third place in the one meter diving event, securing 163.05 points. Dilascio placed third in the three meter diving contest with 171.21 points.
In the 400 yard medley relay, led by Skeivys, Dodenhoff, Doughty, and sophomore Melissa Dorsch, the Gaels placed second with a time of 4:04.21.
Sophomore Mary Ellen Mangione took third place in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 11:05.42. In the 200 Yard IM, Mangione finished second with a time of 2:14:89, while Skeivys followed in third with a time of 2:16:57. Skeivys then placed third in the 200 backstroke event with a time of 2:15.50
Doughty placed third in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.95. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle, completing the event in 5:20.31.
Dorsch placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25:41. In the 200 yard butterfly, sophomore Daniela Beasley placed third with a time of 2:15.95. Freshman Natalie Bowman finished second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.78.
In the 200 yard breaststroke competition, Mangione placed first with a time of 2:30.46, as Hyokyvaara finished in second with a time of 2:33.65
The 400 Yard freestyle relay team of Bowman, Dorsch, sophomore Leigh Musselman, and freshman Kathryn Nevin took first with a time of 3:40.27.
The Gaels are back in action November 2, at Manhattan.
