Box Score BUFFALO, NY - The Iona College volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker at Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Koessler Center. The Gaels held a 2-1 lead before the Griffs stormed back in the fourth and fifth sets in the loss.
Junior OH Catrina Warren posted a double-double with 19 kills and 14 digs while adding three blocks. Senior OH Alicja Pawelec and junior RS Taylor Cembalisty each had 14 kills in the loss. Pawelec had five blocks and four digs and Cembalisty recorded a career-high 27 digs. Junior MH Shannon Ward and sophomore MH McKenzie Human each had five kills. Ward posted five blocks and Humann had four.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin had 52 assists, four digs and two blocks while senior libero Madisyn Spence posted a career-high 28 digs.
The Gaels dropped the first set 25-20 before coming back in set two with a win by the same margin. After a 25-17 set three gave the Maroon & Gold a 2-1 lead, Canisius won the final two 25-17 and 15-13.
The Griffs' Emily Elek had 13 kills, seven digs and eight blocks. Rachel Kline posted a 10-kill, 13-dig double-double. Roxanne Hernandez had 12 blocks while libero Emily Litwin posted 23 digs.
The Gaels continue action in Western New York tomorrow at Niagara at 1:00 pm.
