WHITTIER, CA - The Iona College men's water polo team wrapped up its west coast roadtrip with a split of its final two contests at the Gary Troyer Tournament. In game one, the Gaels ran away with a 19-7 victory over Caltech before falling to No. 10 Loyola Marymount 19-9.
Against Caltech, the Gaels were able to snap a five game losing streak with six goals in the first two periods, talking a 6-3 lead into half. The Gaels would double their output with another half dozen in the third, before putting the game away by outscoring Caltech 7-1 in the final quarter.
Senior Jake Lloyd led the Gaels with six goals in the win, while senior Matthew Stelnicki had thre goals. Senior Lee Stiles had two while senior Bryan Driscoll, juniors Eric Corley, Ian Thompson and James Ramaley, sophomore Zach Presto and freshman Gerardo Sanchez Rivera each had one goal.
Against the Lions in the finale, Iona allowed Loyola Marymount 13 first half goals and were unable to keep up with the offensive onslaught of the opposition.
Lloyd led the Gaels with four goals in the contest, while senior Sean Davis had three goals. Thompson and Stelnicki were responsible for the other Iona tallies.
Iona resumes CWPA North competition Saturday, October 12th against Brown in Providence, RI at 7:00 pm.
