Machado Signs With NBA's Golden State Warriors

SANTA CRUZ, CA - Iona College men's basketball graduate Scott Machado signed a 10-day contract with the NBA's Golden State Warriors Sunday. He was assigned to the Santa Cruz Warriors Monday.

Machado remains on Golden State's 14-man roster but is on the inactive list as NBA teams can only dress 12 players. He was the 33rd GATORADE Call-Up of the 2012-13 NBA D-League season. He joins 125 players with NBADL experience currently on NBA rosters.

Machado has appeared in 28 NBA D-League games this season, 18 with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and 10 with the Santa Cruz Warriors. He averaged 8.4 points, 5.2 assists and 23.9 minutes. He appeared in six games this season with the Houston Rockets, averaging 1.3 points, 1.0 assists and 0.3 steals in 3.5 minutes per game.

After not being drafted last June, Machado signed with the Houston Rockets on Sept. 6 before being waived by the team on Jan. 7. He subsequently joined the Vipers and was traded to Santa Cruz on March 8.

As the No. 3 seed in the NBA D-League playoffs, Santa Cruz earned a 124-118 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last night. He did not score in 13 minutes but had two assists and two rebounds. Santa Cruz and Fort Wayne resume the three-game series Saturday.

Machado is Iona's all-time assists leader with 880 and ranked No. 17 on the NCAA's all-time list at the time of his graduation. He was also named the 2012 MAAC Player of the Year and was the Haggerty Award winner for Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year.
