Box Score LOUDONVILLE, NY - Despite scoring more total points than its opponent, the Iona College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-set decision at Siena in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener at the Alumni Rec Center.
After taking the first set 25-18, the Gaels dropped set two 29-27. They took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 set three win before falling in the final two 25-23 and 15-13.
Junior Catrina Warren matched a career-best with 23 kills in the loss. Her 76 attack attempts were 21 more than her previous career-high. She completed a double-double with 10 digs to go along with two blocks and an ace.
Senior Alicja Pawelec had 13 kills and 10 digs and also had two blocks and an ace. Junior Taylor Cembalisty posted 10 kills and a team-best 16 digs. Rookie Karly White had seven kills and a .364 kitting percentage. Sophomore McKenzie Humann had six kills and hit .625 with three blocks.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin posted 50 assists and nine digs while junior libero Katie Marabella added 12 digs.
Four Saints had double-digit kill totals. Taylor Akana led with 19 and 17 digs. Setter Haley Howell posted a 59-assist, 12-dig double-double while libero Bobbi Lin Kalama had a team-high 18 digs.
The Gaels are back in action Sunday at Marist.
