JERSEY CITY, NJ - The women's swimming and diving team competed in MAAC action Saturday afternoon against Saint Peter's. The Gaels fell to the Peacocks by the score of 171-95.
In the three meter diving event, sophomore Alicia Raffle placed first, tallying 170.25 points.
The Gaels placed second in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:54.12. The team was comprised of senior Maria Skeivys, sophomore Mary Ellen Mangione, sophomore Sophia Hyokyvaara, and freshman Kathryn Nevin.
Senior Brigitte Doughty placed second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:05.57, as well as the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.54. Nevin completed the 100 freestyle in third place with a time of 57.47. Doughty completed her single's competition witha third place finish in the 100 butterfly event, finishing with a time of 1:02.80.
In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Melissa Dorsch placed second with a time of 25.81. Freshman Natalie Bowman touched just behind in third place, coming in with a time of 26.31.
The 200 freestyle event saw Mangione post a third place finish, completing the event with a time of 2:03.40. Mangione also placed second in the 200 yard breastroke, as she finished with a time of 2:32.63. Hyokyvaara touched behind Mangione, placing third with a time of 2:34.12.
Nevin placed second in the 100 yard breastroke, finishing with a time of 1:11.33. Hyokyvaara trailed behind, finishing third with a time of 1:12.56.
Skeivys finished with three individual second place finishes. In the 200 yard backstroke, Skeivys touched with a time of 2:13.23. The 200 yard IM saw her finish with a time of 2:14.55. In the 100 yard backstroke, Skeivys touched second with a time of 1:02.01, while sophomore Leigh Musselman placed third with a time of 1:04.11.
Iona finished strong on the night, placing first in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The squad of Nevin, Bowman, Dorsch, and Doughty completed the event with a time of 1:42.12.
The Gaels will next be in action next Saturday against another MAAC rival Fairfield. Action is set to begin at 11:00 am.
