Box Score LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - The Iona College volleyball team advanced to the 2014 MAAC Championship quarterfinal with a three-set win (25-15 ,25-13, 25-18) over Saint Peter's in the opening round. Senior OH Catrina Warren led the Gaels with an 11-kill, 12-dig double-double to advance the No. 8 Maroon & Gold squad to a round of eight matchup with No. 1 Marist tonight at 5:00 pm.
Warren hit .219 and added four assists and five blocks in the win. Rookie OH Kassandra Darnaby posted 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks while hitting .308. Up the middle, junior Shannon Ward and sophomore Karly White combined for 16 kills, and eight blocks while hitting .375. White had nine kills (.438) with four blocks while Ward added seven kills (.312) and also had four rejections. Senior RS Taylor Cembalisty posted five kills and 12 digs. Senior setter Caris Myles posted 33 assists and senior libero Katie Marabella had 14 digs in the win.
Saint Peter's was led by 10 kills from Lauren Behrens, 13 digs from Kaley Howell and 20 assists and 10 digs by Kristina Baehr.
The Gaels take on Marist at 5:00 pm. A win advances the team to the semifinal round matchup vs. No. 4 Fairfield or No. 5 Rider at the same time on Friday. If Iona falls to the Red Foxes Iona takes on Quinnipiac in the consolation bracket at 11 am.
