Box Score 2 NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College volleyball team split two contests at the Hynes Center today, topping Hartford in three sets before falling in a hard fought four-set battle with La Salle. The Gaels, Explorers and Hawks all finished with a 2-1 record in the tournament with senior OH Catrina Warren and sophomore MB Karly White were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.
In the opener, the Gaels took out Hartford 25-17, 25-21 and 25-22. Warren had 13 kills, five blocks, four digs and two aces in the all-around effort. Senior RS Taylor Cembalisty added 12 kills and 12 digs for her second double-double of the season while hitting .370 in the win. White posted seven kills and five blocks, hitting .357. Senior MB Shannon Ward hit .500 with six kills in 10 attempts.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin had 35 assists while senior libero Katie Marabella posted 11 digs.
In the night cap, La Salle edged the Maroon & Gold by two points in the first two sets before Iona rallied for a 25-20 set three win. An epic fourth frame saw multiple set point attempts on both sides before La Salle prevailed 36-34.
Warren posted 15 kills and 22 digs. Cembalisty also had a double-double with 15 kills, 13 digs and five blocks. White, Ward and rookie OH Kassandra Darnaby each chipped in eight kills. Darnaby had 11 digs and White added nine blocks in the loss. Ziskin posted her first double-double with 42 assists and 13 digs.
The Gaels are back in action Thursday evening at the Hynes Center when they host Western Michigan at 7:00 pm.
