Box Score HAMDEN, CT - The Iona College volleyball team held on for its first conference win in a five-set victory at Quinnipiac on Burt Kahn Court in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Gaels (4-9, 1-1) took the first two sets 25-19 and 25-23 and dropped the second two 25-17 and 25-13 before holding on to a 15-12 win in the fifth.
"This game is always little battles of ups and downs," said head coach Jon Killingbeck. "We talk about staying disciplined when things are not going well and in game five we did that. Our team kept a cool head, stayed disciplined and fought hard for the win."
Senior OH Catrina Warren hit .319 and had a season-best 21 kills to go along with 10 digs for her seventh double-double in 13 matches this season. Four performers had eight or more kills with rookie OH Kassandra Darnaby posting nine kills and eight digs, senior RS Taylor Cembalisty posted nine kills and seven digs and senior MH Shannon Ward and sophomore MH Karly white posting eight kills apiece.
Junior setter Natalie Ziskin posted 50 assists on the Gaels 56 kills in the win. She added six digs and an ace. Senior libero Katie Marabella had 23 digs in the win.
Quinnipiac was led by 23 kills and a .347 hitting percentage by OH Katie Urycki. MH Cheyenne Orsi posted 10 kills and hit .562. Libero Cody Michaels had 20 digs and setter Sierra Dawson recorded 47 assists.
The Gaels return to the Hynes Center next weekend when they host Siena and Marist for 1 pm matches on Saturday and Sunday.
