Gaels Fall Prey to the Hawks, 6-0

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team opened up the month of September with a 6-0 loss to the Hartford Hawks at Mazzella Field.

The Hawks offense centered on their two junior forwards, Tori Tripp and Aaliyah Ingram. Tripp registered three shots on goal, two of which found the back of the net. She also chipped in two assists, both of which set up her offensive battery mate.

Ingram scored three goals, and registered two assists, totaling up to an eight point game.

Tripp scored the first two first half goals off Ingram assists in the 17' and 25', and those two net-finders carried Hartford into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The start of the second half began with the Hawks peppering the Gaels defense. Ingram was at the center of the Hawks attack, scoring two goals in a two minute span within the opening moments of the final 45 minutes. She would add her third goal in the 79th minute off an assist from senior Elise Galipo.

The other Hartford Hawk to score was freshman Julia Carr in the 52nd minute, her second of the season. Tripp scored her first two goals of the season against Iona, and Ingram now has five thus far this year.

Iona's offense had spurts of potential, many mustering from the leg of freshman Mariana Jaramillo, who had the most shots for the Gaels with three. Freshman Corinne Burns, senior Kim Marra, and sophomore Christine Rebus each had a shot on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Taylor Rice made six saves in the loss.

Iona returns to action this Sunday (Sep. 6) against the Towson Tigers at Mazzella Field.
