Box Score NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Iona College volleyball team dropped a four-set decision at Central Connecticut State in its 2016 season opener and the first contest of the 2016 CCSU Volleyball Invitational at Detrick Gymnasium. After evening the match at 1-1, the Gaels fell in the final two sets in the loss.
Central Connecticut took the first set 25-20 before Iona won the second 25-23. The Blue Devils closed out the match with set wins of 25-13 and 25-20.
Sophomore Claire Archibald led Iona with 13 kills. She posted six digs and an ace in the loss. Senior Karly White posted seven kills and three blocks while sophomore Mia Bonsignore had five kills and a team-best five blocks. Sophomore Amanda Gannon recorded six kills and five digs. Sophomore setter Emma Rose posted a 22-assist, 12-dig double-double and sophomore libero Jessica Paolucci led the way with 15 digs.
CCSU's Morgan Woycik had 12 kills and hit .308, setters Kaitlyn Kushman and Erin McDermott combined for 44 assists and 10 digs while Cassidy Stankowski had eight kills and a team-best 15 digs in the win.
Iona concludes play in New Britain Saturday vs. Fordham at 11:00 am and Lehigh at 6:30 pm.
