NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In front of a capacity senior day crowd, the Iona College men's and women's swimming & diving closed out their 2016-17 regular season with a pair of victories over visiting Manhattan College at the Hynes Center.
The Iona Men posted at 200-80 tally to bring their record to 8-3-1 (4-0-1 in MAAC dual meets) on the season. The Iona Women posted a 182-79 win to close the season at 6-8 (4-0 in MAAC dual meets).
Leading the way for the men was Senior Collin Purrman, with three victories. Swimming in front of his parents – both Iona graduates - the senior took the 200-Individual Medley along with the 100 and 200-yard Butterfly events with respective times of 1:57.56, 52.33 and 1:55.01.
Junior Christian Foti, touched first in the 200 and 500-Freestyle at 1:43.49 and 4:42.91. Â Sophomore Matthew Bosse won the 100 and 200-Back at 53.61 and 1:59.27.
Other individual winners on the men's side included freshman Matt Anderson in the 1000-Freestyle at 9:38.65; junior Kyle Desrosiers in the 100-Free at 47.91; junior Zack Holbrook in the 50-Free at 22.06; and junior Christopher Vadala in the 200-Breast at 2:10.31.
Action on the women's side saw six Iona women combine for eight victories.
Sophomore Maria DiBella and Junior Alexandra DiBiase each took a pair of wins. DiBella won the 100-Back at 1:01.41 and the 500-Free at 5:19.96. DiBiase took the 100 and 200-Butterfly events at 1:01.75 and 2:14.21.
Junior Alex Aliapoulios touched first in the 200-Free at 2:00.54; rookie Alyssa Chain won the 50-Free at 25.08; junior Elizabeth Kaczmarek won the 2990-IM at 2:14.70 and sophomore Jessica Schmidt took the 200-Back at 2:12.94.
In their last race at Hynes, senior Keegan Boisson-Yates finished behind Purrman at 53.56 in the 1000-Butterfly. Senior Brendan Chan was fifth in the 200-Fly at 2:04.14 and senior Maria Lopez was second in the 100-Back at 1:03.81.
Soon to be graduate Katie Nevin was third in the 100-Free at 56.86 while senior men Matthew Rothman was third in the 100-Free at 49.89, and Bryan Veals was fifth in the 1000-Free at 10:54.11.
Iona looks to build upon its strong regular season at the MAAC Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 8. All the league schools will gather in Buffalo, NY to battle it out over a four-day event.
