The Iona men's water polo team completed the weekend trip dropping a pair of road contests at No. 14 Harvard, 12-6 and an overtime defeat to No. 15 Brown, 17-13. In the defeat to Brown,
Sebastian Van Reeken set an Iona record with 23 saves against the Bears, topping the previous record off 22 set by
Jorge Andres Torres last year against Salem International.

Game 1: No. 14 Harvard 12, Iona 6
Cambridge MA – A second half offensive struggle halted the Gaels to No. 14 Harvard, falling 12-6 to the Crimson.
Patrick Hudak scored a team-high three goals to go along with three kickouts drawn.
Marc Stauble,
Zach Roper and
Jay Pagano each notched a goal in the defeat.
Jorge Andres Torres got the start in net, stopping 15 shots and collecting two steals.

The Crimson jumped out to a 1-0 lead 53 ticks into the contest but, but Hudak quickly knotted up the score 27 seconds later. With 5:08 remaining, Harvard went back ahead, but Pagano took advantage of a Harvard kickout to tie the game at 2-2. The teams traded goals again with the latter coming from the arm of Stauble as the teams went into the second quarter tied 3-3.

Hudak gave Iona their first lead of the game, connecting 54 seconds into the second frame. The Gaels remained off the scoreboard for the next seven minutes while allowing the opposition to tally three. With 14 seconds remaining, Roper scored his lone goal to cut the Iona deficit to two, 7-5

Iona struggled to get the offense going in the third quarter, scoring the first goal and conceding four Crimson goals. The fourth quarter saw Iona held scoreless.

Game 2: No. 15 Brown 17, Iona 13
Providence, Rhode Island – A last second penalty shot by
Quinn Lloyd knotted a battle with No. 15 Brown University, but Iona was held scoreless in overtime, as the Gaels fell 17-13 to the Bears.
Patrick Judge tallied a team-high three goals. Hudak and Brozovic each netted a pair. Lloyd added a pair of goals, including the last-second tally. Anthony, Stauble, Hulbert and Roper all tallied one goal each.
Sebastian Van Reeken went the distance in net, stopping an Iona record 23 shots including one gigantic five-meter with under three minutes to play in regulation.

The teams went back in forth in the first frame, with the scoreboard reading 3-3 after eight minutes. Stauble scored the opener, Hulbert gave the Gaels a 2-1 advantage with 5:04 remaining, and
Patrick Judge gave Iona their third lead of the game with 2:11 to go.

Brown got rolling in the early stages of the second quarter, scoring the first two goals over the first 1:34 of the frame.
Andrew Brozovic halted the Bears' run with 2:48 to go but the opposition answered back 18 seconds later to put the Gaels' back down a pair, 6-4. Anthony connected with 1:20 remaining to cut the deficit to one before the final horn sounded.

Brown opened up the third quarter on a 4-1 run with the Iona goal coming from Hudak with 5:16 remaining. With Iona trailing 10-6, the Gaels would tally the next three over the final 2:02 of play.
Patrick Judge found the back of the net, followed by Brozovic 27 seconds later. The rally continued with Brozovic's second tally with 55 remaining in the quarter.

An eventful fourth quarter saw Iona rally from two goals down in the final 12 seconds to knot the score at 13 and send the game into overtime. Brown scored the opening goal with 6:12 left but was answered by
Patrick Judge with 4:38 to go. Brown pulled ahead with two goals over a 1:24 span to put the Gael deficit at two, 13-11. With 2:27 to play, Van Reeken stopped a five-meter penalty shot to keep the deficit at two. With 59 seconds remaining, Hulbert was kicked out but Iona denied the Brown powerplay. Lloyd brought Iona to within one with 12 seconds to go. With one second remaining, the referees called a five meter against Brown. Iona lined up Lloyd, Friday's hero to take the shot. With the second remaining on the clock, Lloyd buried the shot to send the game into overtime.
Iona was unable to sustain the momentum in the extra period, allowing four Brown goals, including one penalty shot tally.

The Gaels will return to the pool on Wednesday, Nov. 1 to take on the Princeton Tigers on the road beginning at 7:00 PM.
