LA VERNE, CA - In a thrilling morning contest, Iona was able to hold off a late rally by the La Verne Leopards, coming out on top 10-9. Senior

Jonathan Hulbert each scoring one. Iona forced seven kickouts while being ejected 10 times. Sophomore
Jorge Andres Torres went the distance in goal, stopping seven shots and collecting five steals.

The Gaels found the back of the net first 3:22 in from the arm of Roper, and was followed up by Anthony 39 seconds later. The Leopards tallied the next two, with the first coming off an ejection of freshman
Dalton Hansten. In the second period, Seipp scored his first of the morning on the powerplay. With 4:37 remaining, Hulbert completed the scoring for the half as the Gaels went into the break up a pair, 4-2.

The Maroon & Gold continued to roll early in the second half, receiving an even strength goal from Hudak and a powerplay tally from
Andrew Judge. Iona fell into foul trouble, as the Leopards cashed in on three consecutive powerplay opportunities to cut the lead to 6-5. With 44 ticks left in the third, Hudak gave the Gaels some more breathing room, with Iona completing the period up 7-5.

La Verne was able to knot the score at 7-7 just 1:10 into the final frame, but the Gaels answered right back with scores from
Patrick Judge, Lloyd and a powerplay goal by Seipp. With 3:22 left, La Verne scored after an ejection from Seipp, and cut the lead down to one on a goal with 1:36 left. Torres made a key stop in the final seconds as Iona held on to the 10-9 victory.

Iona 9, Loyola Marymount 16

LOS ANGELES, CA - Despite scoring four goals in the first quarter, the Maroon & Gold scored five the rest of the way against the Loyola Marymount Lions, falling 16-9 on Thursday afternoon.

As a team, Iona attempted 34 shots, drew five kickouts and nabbed 13 steals. Hudak, Lloyd and Roper scored two goals apiece, with
Patrick Judge,
Andrew Judge and
Spencer Anthony each finding the back of the net once. Roper also added six steals in the contest. In net,
Sebastian Van Reeken played the totality of the game, making 12 saves and collecting four steals.

Iona sped off to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Hudak. After a Lions goal, Roper put the Gaels back ahead. The Lions scored the next two to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Loyola Marymount.
Andrew Judge and Seipp tallied goals to give Iona the 4-3 lead, but a powerplay goal scored by the opposition knotted the score once more as the first horn sounded. The second quarter saw the Lions score three goals while holding the Gaels off the scoresheet.

Loyola Marymount scored the first three goals of the third quarter within the span of two minutes to open up the Iona deficit to six, 10-4. Anthony stopped the run to bring the Gaels within five, but with 1:06 remaining, the Lions added their 11
th goal.
Iona was outscored 6-5 in the final frame. With 6:52 remaining, Seipp scored a powerplay goal. After a Lions goal,
Patrick Judge scored. Loyola Marymount scored the next two before Roper found the back of the net. After two more goals by the opposition, Seipp tallied his final goal of the afternoon.

The Gaels (4-11, 0-4) will travel to Claremont, California tomorrow to take part in the Gary Troyer tournament against Whittier (2:45 PM ET) and Cal Lutheran (7:45 PM ET).
