WORCESTER, MA – The Iona Lacrosse team suffered a 10-0 defeat to the Holy Cross Crusaders on Saturday afternoon. The shutout was the second in program history; the first coming on a 16-0 defeat to New Hampshire in 2013.

The Maroon & Gold totalled 12 shots, with six being stopped by Holy Cross goalkeeper Julia Maloney. Iona was forced into committing 24 turnovers, and controlled only four draws, compared Holy Cross's eight. Holy Cross scored three goals in the first half, and seven in the second en route to the shutout.

Junior Jenna Tolzmann led the Maroon & Gold in shots attempted (4), ground balls (3), and caused turnovers (3). Sophomore Maureen Murphy attempted three shots. Freshman Samantha Tyo started in net for the Gaels, allowing three goals and making five saves in 41 minutes of action before being relieved by sophomore Shannon McCaffrey who stopped three Crusaders attempts.

For the Crusaders, Maddie Ward completed a hat-trick on four shots. Tess MacKay and Audrey Mandaro each found the back of the net twice, while Baker Earl, Bryn Carroll, and Kara McDuffee each tallied one goal.

The Gaels will return to action on Wednesday for their home opener at 3:00 PM.
